As a whole, data science is a relatively new field. It gained traction very recently, as we started generating and collecting more and more data of various kinds. It is estimated that within the last 2 years, humanity generated around 90% of the data ever recorded. And this vast amount of information, if analyzed closely, can potentially contain revolutionary knowledge about the societal conditions, human relationships, behaviour patterns, and surprising correlations that can drastically change and improve our day-to-day life and speed up advancement in various fields, like security or medicine.
As the field is new, there aren’t yet many data scientists. On the flip side, it means that it is open for new, creative people, who want to help revolutionize the world. Because although the words “data science” might not immediately strike you as requiring good communication and creativity, both of these are very essential skills in a data scientist’s skill set. After all, to properly analyze large sets of data, you first need to know what to look for and being able to communicate with people to pinpoint the issue you should focus on.
